The Dancer

When I was commissioned to create a piece in homage to Martha Graham, I knew I had to go beyond admiration—I had to enter the world of dance itself. At the time, my studio in Provence was not far from the Pavillon Noir, home to the acclaimed Ballet Preljocaj.

I had the privilege of working closely with some of the professional dancers there, observing, sketching, and simply sharing space with them. To witness their control, their grace, their profound awareness of movement and stillness—it was transformative.

What began as a tribute to one of the great pioneers of modern dance became an ongoing dialogue between sculpture and motion.

That experience has never left me. It continues to echo through my work, inspiring new pieces in white and black marble, bronze, and stainless steel. Each sculpture is a still moment, drawn from the flow of the human form in motion—an enduring homage not only to Martha Graham, but to the universal poetry of dance itself.
