African Series

Through his African series, notably works such as African Queen, Emmanuel Fillion affirms a deep commitment to celebrating diversity, dignity, and presence. Carved in Belgian black marble, these sculptures honor the strength, grace, and resilience of Black women, while engaging in a quiet dialogue with the material itself. The marble’s dense, luminous depth carries its own history—one that echoes the narratives of identity, memory, and endurance embodied in the figures it shapes.

Fillion’s work goes beyond form. Each sculpture is an act of storytelling, inviting the viewer into a space where history, culture, and the human experience intersect. In this dialogue between past and present, matter becomes metaphor: curves suggest movement, stillness holds emotion, and silence speaks with intensity. In Fillion’s hands, sculpture is not static—it is alive, expressive, and continuously evolving, pushing the boundaries of contemporary sculpture while remaining deeply rooted in meaning.
